Band Descriptions
The Red Light Abatements
Headed by trombonist Scott Larson, this swingin' quintet that plays in the mold of Louis Armstrong's hot fives will have you dancing up a storm to your favorite New Orleans jazz mixed with big band swing. The Red Light Abatements have been a featured band at Amnesia's Sunday night Jazz Age Jam Session as well as making guest appearances playing for swing dancers at Cat's Corner in San Francisco.
Gaucho
Guacho, a first-rate gypsy jazz ensemble, was formed in 2002 featuring Dave Rickets and Michael Groh on guitars, Ari Munkres on standup bass and Rob Reich on the accordian, as well a variety of guest artists who bring their own spice to the mix. With a repetoire based in the music of Django Reinhardt and the gypsy jazz of the 1930's Europe, the band also finds inspiration in the rhythmic drive and collective improvisation of New Orleans swing music and the "gut bucket" sound. You can often find them playing the music they love with boundless energy, passion and humor at popular SF Mission hangouts like Amesia, Tartine Bakery and Chouchou.
The Jelly Roll Souls
In their own words, The Jelly Roll Souls are the youngest, swingin'est and soulfullest band around today...and we heartily agree! Born from the collaborative visionary efforts of Lech Wierzynski (trumpet and vocals) and Nansamba Ssensalo (drums), the Jelly Roll Souls deliver a sound that is as joyous and funky as a New Orleans street parade, down-home as a Delta juke joint, and fresh and sweet as a Carolina peach. The Jelly Roll Souls are one of the most popular regular bands at the Cat's Corner Swing Dance Party in SF, and will not only keep your feet moving, but also delight your ears and most of all, soothe your soul.
DJ Michael Terkowski
Michael has premiered at top international swing dance events like Herrang, Camp Jitterbug and Goodnight Sweetheart and is a regular DJ at local venues such as Cat's Corner, Verdi Club, Friday Night Blues, Swing Central, Lindy in the Square and many others.
His love for Lindy Hop and social dancing knows no limits, and he dedicates his music to the social dancers, trying hard to play music that makes all people want to dance. He brings a rhythmic and energetic style, borrowing from Classic Swing, Groove, Blues and Soul to a create a unique mix guaranteed to leave you fresh and wanting for more. Leaving no stone unturned, he works hard to collect music that is not your standard top-40, you never know what song he will play next!
