Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you putting on this benefit?

Last year a big group of lindyhoppers from San Francisco formed a team and went down to the 24 Hour Cancer Dance-a-thon in Orange County. We had a great time! We want to go back! We want to raise even more money!

We decided to do something to get the greater SF swing community involved so we're putting on a workshop and dance that everyone can participate in and enjoy. Think of it as a chance to warm up for SFLX or to take your dancing up a notch. It's an opportunity to get some great dancing in while supporting an equally great cause!

Uh, the Dance-a-thon isn't until March 2010, why are you starting so early?

We are a competitive group, and while we did pretty good last year, we would like to raise even more money this year. Specifically, we were hoping to raise more money than any of the other teams. : )

Wow! Cool! Can I come to the Dance-a-thon?!

Yes! If you would like to join us, sign up here [link] and join the San Francisco team. Some of us have had our lives touched by cancer, but all of us love to dance, and it just seemed like the right thing to do at the right time. We would love to have your good company.

Who does this benefit? And, why not raise money for a Bay Area organization?

The money we raise will be donated, on behalf of Team San Francisco (yay!) to a research and treatment hospital in Orange County called City of Hope. City of Hope is a hospital that focuses on research and innovation in patient treatment. What that means is that all cancer patients, no matter where you get treated, are likely benefit from the research conducted at City of Hope. According to City of Hope most hospitals have about 5% of their population involved in clinical trials, at City of Hope that figure is closer to 40%. It is a member of the The National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN), a not-for-profit alliance of 21 of the world's leading cancer centers, is dedicated to improving the quality and effectiveness of care provided to patients with cancer. In addition, they were voted one of America's best hospitals by US News and World Report. Your money is going to a good cause that benefits people from all over the country.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes. Go here for a receipt: http://www.danceathon.org/danceathonreceipt.pdf and we'll make sure we get it signed and back to you.
